Currently, I teach 7th grade Study Skills and 8th grade Creative Writing, as well as serving as the district’s Media Specialist.  In this capacity, I am in charge of the library and computer lab at the Junior High School and I process all of the books for the Elementary School library.  I love choosing books for students to read and helping them to select the right materials.  I believe that good reading skills are essential to comprehension in all of their other classes.
     In our 7th grade Study Skills class, we learn about our individual learning styles, note-taking skills, as well as test-taking strategies.  We practice learning information for our geography and science classes using various memory techniques.  We write essays using rubrics that are identical to ones used by the ISAT test scorers.
     In our 8th grade Creative Writing class, we write in our journals daily.  We have also investigated how the same stories would sound in different genres.  We try to improve our grammar mechanics skills.  We write various types of essays, proofread, and edit them for publication.
