Mrs. Rosie McKoon is currently teaching fourth grade at Nauvoo-Colusa Elementary. In fourth grade we learn many interesting topics through Reading, English, Math, Spelling, Social Studies, and Science. In Reading we cover a wide range of literary topics from fiction that includes folk tales,novels,realistic fictions, to non-fiction stories that include stories about people to real animal stories. We also work on fluency,comprehension skills, and phonetic skills.
Social Studies finds us studying the Regions of the United States. We also cover a unit on our state of Illinois. We will be taking field trips to Western Illinois Threshers and the Civil War Reenactment that goes along with our studies.
So far in Science we have covered four units in Life Science and are now onto a unit in Physical Science discussing Matter and Heat.
During this year in Math we have studied Place Value, Addition and Subtraction of larger numbers, Equalities and Inequalities,Multiplication and Division, Data and Probability,Geometry,and hopefully multiplication and division of higher numbers.
English class entails the study of different parts of speech, the basic sentence, punctuation, creative writing, and essay writing. We also have weekly spelling tests. We keep very busy in fourth grade. .
