Today was "National Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day." To celebrate, Mrs. Bodily had her science students learning Morse Code, how to communicate via Morse Code, and the history and impact Morse Code had in U.S. wars. Ms. Adkisson brought her 5th Grade students to join Mrs. Bodily's class so all could learn more about and practice using Morse Code. Thank you, Mrs. B, Ms. A, and your students for celebrating and learning together!

Today, I was very happy to have Mrs. Sandy Harman, from Nauvoo Food Pantry, here visiting NCES during Viking time to pick up a check from our school for $2,380.98 to donate to our local food pantry! That was the total amount of donations we collected during our schoolwide "Change Drive." NCES, we are so proud of our students, staff, and parents for their generosity and kindness to make this possible. Thank you all.

NCES Parents/Guardians and Students, We were aware of a social media location-based app called "YikYak" which allows anyone who downloads the app to post anonymous comments. Other area schools and school districts across the United States are experiencing issues with students using this app and posting inappropriate content. We want you to be aware of this app and monitor your child’s social media accounts and apps for their safety and wellbeing. Although the app is anonymous, individuals using the app are required to provide a phone number, and police are able to identify users. Students should understand that comments here that are threatening in nature will be reported to police and investigated to the fullest extent possible. School officials will not hesitate to invoke school discipline as well as legal consequences for cyberbullying or threats posted to YikYak, or any other social media platform. Bullying will not be tolerated. Please also understand that sharing screenshots of content posted elsewhere is not helpful, perpetuates fear associated with the initial threat and impedes the investigation and resolution of each incident. If you see threatening content, report it to the school and/or the police immediately. Schools are advising that students delete this app immediately, and that parents continue to be vigilant and communicate the seriousness of using technology to make threats or cause distress and disruption at school. We will continue to provide a safe learning environment for all, but we need the cooperation of our students and families to maintain a positive school culture. Thank you for your support.

Dear Nauvoo-Colusa Parents, Staff, and Students: On October 18, 2021, the Board of Education took action directing me to require the school community to comply with the Governor’s Executive Order 2021-22, which requires all individuals in Illinois, regardless of vaccination status, who are age two or over and able to medically tolerate a face covering (a mask or cloth face covering) to cover their nose and mouth with a face covering when in an indoor public place, including school districts. Further, all individuals must wear face coverings on buses. The Board adopted these requirements under protest and reserved the right to challenge the validity of these orders in court, but has directed me to fully enforce these requirements at this time to preserve athletic opportunities and State and federal funding for students. Accordingly, as of October 29, 2021, all students, staff, parents, and visitors to the District will be required to wear masks in District buildings and on school buses. Any staff member, student, parent, or visitor who fails to follow this directive may be disciplined and/or excluded from District premises and/or school buses. Staff will be directed to enforce the District’s mask requirement.

Per Health Dept., a student who is quarantined as a close contact from a positive COVID test cannot attend school for 14 calendar days. Other options that could possibly allow a student to return in fewer than 14 days are unavailable to our students due to our mask optional policy. Dr. Kent Young
