Feb. 28-Mar. 4, 2022, NCES staff and students celebrated "Read Across America Week" with a variety of daily themes and events taking place at NCES. We appreciate everyone supporting reading and reading more to and with our children at school, at home and anywhere. Enjoy the pictures and keep reading!!!

Parents/Grandparents/Guardians -
If you are picking up your child/children, please stay in the car rider line UNLESS you are directed to pull forward! We've been having a few people "jump" the line or park on the side and get their kids. We want you to stay in line to avoid accidents (which we've had a few close calls with people jumping the line) and to keep our kids/staff safe.
Please pass this information along if you are having someone different picking your child up.

On behalf of the NCES Staff and Students, we would like to congratulate our Boys Basketball Team, Coach Knipe and Coach Sinele, on an outstanding season. Our team lost in the Regional Championship last night, however, they finished with a season record of 17 wins and 2 losses. What a great year, Vikings! We are very proud of you!

Notice the Change of date!
Dear Nauvoo-Colusa families,
On Friday, an Illinois judge ruled on a lawsuit filed by more than 700 parents across the state that challenged the state-mandated COVID-19 mitigations. For those districts named in the lawsuit, the Judge ruled against the Governor's mask mandate.
Even though Nauvoo-Colusa CUSD #325 was not part of the lawsuit, the school board will most likely vote not to require students and staff members to wear masks in the school building. The school board will hold a special meeting Monday evening to vote on the mandate. However, the administration will not punish students or staff members who choose not to wear masks on Monday, February 7, 2022. It is the parent's choice if they want their children to continue to wear masks at school.
Thank you for your continued support of our students, teachers, and staff. While it has been a challenging year, we will continue to push forward together.
Sincerely,
Kent Young
Superintendent

Please remember to start using the new phone number! To improve phone service at Nauvoo-Colusa Elementary School, there will be a new phone number as of January 3rd, 2022. The new number is 866-453-2600. This is a toll free number for everyone to use. There will also be a new fax number, 217-980-8013. Thanks!

"Germs, Germs, and more Germs!" This was the learning topic for students in Mrs. Patrick's 1st Grade class on 1/19/2022. Check out the models of "germs" her students created! Check out definitions of viruses vs. bacteria and the flow chart that show what germs can cause. Nice work, 1st Graders and Mrs. Patrick!

Cross country ski lessons, anyone? Mrs. Fink brought in her skis and showed our Kindergarten students how to cross country ski on the snow-covered grounds at NCES last week. Check out the pics! The students and staff had a BLAST! Thank you, Mrs. Fink, for showing us we can have outdoor fun, even in the Winter!

Today was "National Learn Your Name in Morse Code Day." To celebrate, Mrs. Bodily had her science students learning Morse Code, how to communicate via Morse Code, and the history and impact Morse Code had in U.S. wars. Ms. Adkisson brought her 5th Grade students to join Mrs. Bodily's class so all could learn more about and practice using Morse Code. Thank you, Mrs. B, Ms. A, and your students for celebrating and learning together!

Today, I was very happy to have Mrs. Sandy Harman, from Nauvoo Food Pantry, here visiting NCES during Viking time to pick up a check from our school for $2,380.98 to donate to our local food pantry! That was the total amount of donations we collected during our schoolwide "Change Drive." NCES, we are so proud of our students, staff, and parents for their generosity and kindness to make this possible. Thank you all.
