On May 24, 2022, we had a special assembly in front of the students and staff of NCES. We invited special guests to NCES: Mrs. Janet Hill and Mrs. Miki Jackson from Havenlight Fine Art in Nauvoo, and Mrs. Shaila Ayer, widow of Mr. Dan Ayer, and Ms. Hallie Draughan, step-daughter of Mr. Dan Ayer, for a special presentation. Havenlight Fine Art conducted an online Art fundraiser May 5-7 to raise funds for memorial projects to be done at NCES in honor of Mr. Dan Ayer, who passed away on May 16, 2021. Mrs. Hill and Mrs. Jackson presented to Mr. Cox, Mrs. Ayer, and Ms. Draughan, a check for $3070. We got staff and student input on what to do with these funds. We plan to build a "Thunder Wall" on the NCES playground, an all-weather bench outside, and resources for a Calming/De-escalation Room inside of NCES for our students. The NCES staff and students send out a huge thank you to all who donated to this special cause and project in honor of Mr. Ayer. We are excited to get these projects started and pictures will be posted in the future as things progress.
